Stroud and District Snooker League
A GRANDSTAND finish looks in prospect for the conclusion of the Division One title this season. Matchplay A remain one point clear of Cavaliers despite losing 4-2 to them at Matchplay on Monday, March 17. Chris Marshall held his nerve well potting pink and black to edge the first frame off Ade Cooper to give first blood to Cavaliers. The second frame was a reverse of the first with Marshall 22 in front with just the green onwards left. Cooper produced a fine 25 clearance to nick the frame and put the sides back on level-pegging.
Greg Marshall handed the initiative back to Cavaliers beating in form Kelvin Lowe 2-0, both frames were close, being decided on the colours.
Rich Gifford put in a 28 break on his way to comfortably winning his first frame off Cavaliers' Rob Yeomans. However, Yeomans put together a vintage potting display in the second knocking in breaks of 43 and 28 on his way to easily taking the frame and securing the win.
Tipsters could still have a big say after beating Top Breaks C 5-1 at Top Breaks. Nigel Clarke eased past Ray Aoun 2-0, with Clarke finishing off in style clearing up with a break of 30 in the second frame.
Matt Wilkins beat Dave Fletcher 2-0, both being tight frames with Wilkins securing victory on the colours on each occasion.
Chris Phelps stopped the Tipsters' winning run of frames taking a scrappy first frame off Ashley Wyer. The second frame proved to be a better one for Wyer, potting well he won it easily to put Tipsters just two points behind leaders Matchplay A whom they meet next at Dursley Conservative Club.
There were two postponed matches in Division Two last week. They were Minchinhampton A versus Matchplay B and Nailsworth Social Club versus Nailsworth Comrades Club, these games will be played at later dates.
In the one surviving fixture Top Breaks I moved into third thanks to a 5-1 local derby win over Top Breaks E. Dave Adams played well to beat Terry Bertin 2-0. Malcolm Bishop and Bill Chapman shared their two frames, both going to the black ball with Chapman taking the first, Bishop victorious in the second.
Colin Hilliker completed the impressive scoreline easing past Norman Hale 2-0.
