Stroud and District Snooker League
THREE Division Two teams brought their season to a close with their final fixtures on Monday, April 28.
Nailsworth Comrades Club the leaders finished off with a 4-2 win over Top Breaks I.
Dave O'Connell and Dave Adams drew 1-1, Fred Hartles beat Colin Hilliker 2-0 and Phil Uzzell and Malcolm Bishop drew 1-1 to complete the score.
Top Breaks E finished the season on a low note going down 5-1 to title contenders Matchplay B. Bill Chapman lost his two frames to John Webb, with Webb clearing with a break of 22 to take the second frame.
Terry Bertin and Tim Knight drew 1-1, the highlight being a 28 break by Knight. John Nation kept up the relentless gallop for the title when beating Norman Hale 2-0, with Nation having to put in a 22 clearance in the final frame to secure the spoils.
Nailsworth Social Club secured their third place in the league in their final match which resulted in a 5-1 victory. Brian Morgan and John Fanstone shared their two frames. John Hulme continued his great end to the season beating Mike Thwaite 2-0. Rod Chester completed the impressive scoreline beating Colin Harris 2-0.
Minchinhampton A also played Nailsworth Social Club in a rearranged game previously in the week which resulted in a fine 5-1 win for Minchinhampton.
John Fanstone beat Brian Morgan 2-0, Colin Harris and John Hulme shared their two frames, Mike Thwaite beat Rod Chester 2-0 to earn the win.
There are now just two rearranged fixtures to be played which are: Minchinhampton A v Matchplay B (postponed from March 17) and Matchplay B v Top Breaks I (postponed from March 31). Matchplay need just four points from these fixtures to secure the title.
Nailsworth Comrades Club still have a three point lead however and all is still to play for, whatever way it goes it's been a great first season for Nailsworth Social Club who have performed admirably throughout and have given the top class side Matchplay B a fair amount of competition all the way through.
