Strange lights over Rodborough Common
SNJ reader Maurice Pert contacted us this week after seeing a number of lights apparently flying in formation roughly in an easterly to westerly direction from his home in North Woodchester on Saturday evening at around 9.30pm.
Mr Pert said: " The first group comprised of two or three lights in line astern followed by a line of three line abreast, this was followed by another group in the same formation, this group was followed by a singleton.
"There was cloud cover so the lights were obviously below this, there was no sound, and they moved at a uniform speed keeping perfect formation.
"On viewing them through binoculars they appeared no closer than when viewed by the naked eye. The lights were not coloured but were very slightly orange tinted, similar to a white light powered by a battery that is running low. "
Mr Pert added that he is usually very sceptical about UFO's but said: " I have never witnessed anything like that described above previously. We would be most interested to learn if anyone else saw these lights."

It's truly amazing how the sky lanterns moved in perfect formation in the sky. I wonder if there was a slight breeze in the night sky? Nailstock [bold]was[/bold] the weekend before but could it be possible that somebody somewhere also has a few sky lanterns of their own? Maybe? Maybe not? Will we ever find out? The truth is out there... UFO's ha ha!!

I am glad its not just me! I am normally extremely skeptical about this sort of thing, or at least i was until one of the 'sky lanterns' hovered over me on the way back from Bisley last night! I have never felt so hungry in all my life, is it possible that the 'sky lanterns' are being released by one of the many fast food emporiums of stroud, designed to transmit hunger brainwaves to entice travelers like myself into the town centre? whether aliens where involved or not that kebab tasted out of this world!

Me and my boyfriend saw the lights too, we counted between 13 and 16 orange lights. they were moving quite fast in formation, in several small groups. They were silent and seem to disappear into the clouds. One of them flickered momentarily revealing itself to actually consist of three smaller lights in a triangular formation, which led me to believe that it was some kind of plane? These mysterious lights were immediately followed by a distinctively noisy plane, which came from the same direction. It is one of the most curious sights I have ever seen! It was on the wrong weekend for them to be lanterns from nailstock!
